Software Engineer — Data

About the role

Data is increasingly part of nearly every product CognitiveClouds builds.

We are looking for an engineer who can design the systems that turn fragmented operational, product and customer data into reliable, usable infrastructure.

You will work across ingestion, transformation, storage, modelling, APIs, analytics and data quality. Depending on the product, that may mean building an event pipeline, an analytics platform, a customer data layer, an AI data pipeline or the foundation for a high-volume application.

This is a software-engineering role centred on data rather than a reporting-only role.

What you'll do

• Design reliable data architectures for customer products and platforms.
• Build batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Design data models, warehouse and lakehouse structures.
• Build ingestion systems for APIs, databases, files, devices and external platforms.
• Develop transformation and validation pipelines.
• Create trusted datasets for products, analytics and AI.
• Build services and APIs that expose data safely to applications.
• Establish data quality, lineage, observability and documentation.
• Design for security, privacy and appropriate access control.
• Work with analytics and product teams to define meaningful metrics.
• Improve performance and scalability as data volumes grow.
• Help customers rationalise fragmented data systems into simpler architectures.

You might be a fit if

• You have strong SQL skills.
• You are proficient in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or another production language.
• You understand relational databases and analytical data systems.
• You have worked with modern data pipelines and orchestration.
• You understand data modelling beyond simply creating tables.
• You care about correctness, traceability and maintainability.
• You understand cloud data infrastructure.
• You can communicate clearly with software engineers, product teams and business stakeholders.
• You want to build data systems that actually become part of products.

Experience with PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, dbt, Airflow/Dagster, Kafka or similar technologies is useful, but strong fundamentals matter more than matching a specific tool list.
