iPad spend management dashboard — part of SAP's "consumerization of enterprise IT" initiative.
Case study
SAP wanted to reinvent itself as a design powerhouse and lead a new wave of composite applications — apps that cut across its traditionally siloed enterprise systems. It had built the NetWeaver framework and the high-performance HANA platform for exactly this, and approached a number of developers to create concepts with design as the central element. CognitiveClouds created a highly polished iPad application for corporate spend management: a Mint.com-quality consumer experience built on top of the strong business processes and rules embedded in SAP's ERP systems, with a host of API services exposed for the iPad app to consume. It became one of the first in a series of applications in SAP's "Consumerization of IT" initiative — and was highly successful.
How we'd build this today
Technical
Cortex's blueprint step maps the rules-heavy ERP backend before designing the simple UI on top — keeping business logic intact.
Business
Enterprise buyers ask "usable without cutting governance corners?" — the validation trail behind that answer is now table stakes.
This project predates Cortex — this is how we'd approach the same problem with it today.
